Does Heathrow Express Run 24 Hours?

Introduction

Travelling to and from Heathrow Airport can be a daunting experience, especially when it comes to navigating transport options. One of the most popular choices for passengers is the Heathrow Express, known for its speed and convenience. However, many potential travellers often wonder: does the Heathrow Express run 24 hours a day? In this article, we will delve into the operational hours of the Heathrow Express and explore what options are available for late-night journeys.

Heathrow Express Schedule

The Heathrow Express is a non-stop train service connecting Heathrow Airport with London Paddington Station. It is renowned for its efficiency, covering the distance in just 15-20 minutes. However, the service does not run 24 hours a day. The operational hours are as follows:

- Weekdays (Monday to Friday): The first train departs Paddington at 05:10 and the last train leaves at 23:25. From Heathrow, the first service starts at 05:05 and the last one is at 23:30.

- Weekends (Saturday and Sunday): The schedule is slightly different, with the first train from Paddington at 05:10 and the last at 23:25. From Heathrow, the first train is at 05:00 and the last at 23:30.

This means that if you are arriving at Heathrow after midnight or need to travel to the airport during the early hours, you will need to consider alternative transport options.

Alternative Transport Options for Late-Night Travel

If your flight arrives late or you need to catch an early morning flight, here are some alternatives to the Heathrow Express:

1. Night Buses

London's public transport system offers several night bus services that operate after the Heathrow Express has stopped running. The N9 bus service, for example, connects Heathrow with central London, providing a cost-effective option for late-night travellers.

2. Taxis and Ride-Sharing Services

Taxis are available at Heathrow 24/7, making them a reliable option for any time of day. Additionally, ride-sharing services like Uber operate in the area, providing a convenient and often quicker alternative to traditional taxis.

3. Heathrow Connect

While not operational 24 hours either, the Heathrow Connect service is another option for those travelling to central London, albeit with longer travel times and more stops compared to the Heathrow Express.

4. Hotel Shuttles

If you are staying at a hotel near Heathrow, many offer shuttle services that run at various hours. It’s advisable to check with your hotel regarding their specific service hours.

5. Private Transfers

For those looking for a more personalised experience, booking a private transfer in advance can be a great option. Services are available 24/7 and can take you directly from the airport to your desired location.
