Is Parking Expensive at Heathrow Airport?

Understanding Heathrow Airport Parking Costs

Heathrow Airport, located just west of Central London, serves millions of passengers each year. With such high traffic, the question of parking costs is a pertinent one. Is parking expensive at Heathrow Airport? The answer depends on several factors, including the type of parking you choose and the duration of your stay.

Types of Parking at Heathrow

Heathrow offers a variety of parking options to cater to different needs:

1. Short Stay Parking: Ideal for those picking up or dropping off passengers, short stay parking is located close to the terminals. However, it can be quite pricey for longer durations, with rates increasing significantly after a few hours.

2. Long Stay Parking: Designed for travellers leaving their cars for extended periods, long stay parking is more economical than short stay options. These car parks are located further from the terminals, but shuttle services are available to transport passengers to and from the airport.

3. Business Parking: For business travellers, Heathrow offers dedicated parking facilities that provide convenience and speed. While this option is more costly, it can save valuable time for those on a tight schedule.

4. Meet and Greet Services: This premium service allows you to drop off your car at the terminal and have it parked for you. While this offers the utmost convenience, it is also one of the most expensive options available.

Pricing Overview

The costs for parking at Heathrow can vary significantly:

- Short Stay Parking: Prices start at around £5 for 30 minutes, escalating to £40 for 24 hours.

Is It Worth the Cost?

While parking at Heathrow can be expensive, there are ways to manage these costs. For example, if you book in advance, you can secure better rates. Additionally, considering the convenience of location and the safety of your vehicle while you travel can justify the expense for many.

Alternatives to Airport Parking

If airport parking seems too pricey, consider these alternatives:

- Public Transport: Heathrow is well-connected by public transport, including the Heathrow Express, London Underground, and buses. This option can be significantly cheaper than parking.
