What To Expect When Arriving At Heathrow Airport

Introduction

Arriving at Heathrow Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world, can be an exciting yet daunting experience. This guide will walk you through what to expect upon arrival, ensuring that you navigate the airport with confidence and ease.

Immigration and Customs

Passport Control

Upon disembarking, the first step is to go through passport control. Make sure to have your passport and any necessary documentation ready. EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens can use the e-gates for a faster process, while other travellers will need to queue for manual checks.

Expect to present your passport and, if required, show proof of onward travel or accommodation.

Baggage Claim

After clearing passport control, follow the signs to baggage claim. Monitors will indicate which carousel your flight's luggage will arrive on. It’s advisable to keep your baggage claim ticket handy, as it may be required if your luggage does not appear.

Customs Declaration

Once you have collected your luggage, you will need to pass through customs. There are two channels: the green channel for those with nothing to declare and the red channel for those who need to declare goods. Familiarise yourself with UK customs regulations to avoid any issues.
